The Silver Beaver is a national award presented by the local council; it is the highest honor a local council may bestow upon a volunteer.
Nominations for the Silver Beaver awards consist of three parts:
- Noteworthy service of exceptional character to non-Scouting youth
- Exceptional service to the Boy Scouts of America
- Service or standing within the community or community organization
Nominations will not be considered for professional Scouters or council employees within five years of their leaving employment with BSA. Nominations cannot be made for posthumous awards. Additionally, the award is limited to adults 21 years of age or older.
Councils may present 1 Silver Beaver award for every 60 units. Nominations for the Silver Beaver award are due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2013 .
